Target group & suitability
Our Master's programmes are aimed at professionals who wish to deepen their expertise and take the next step in their careers – particularly at:
Professionals from the media, film, and creative industries
Legal professionals and economists with a media focus
Project and management staff in companies, institutions and associations
Professionals who wish to combine legal and economic skills
No. Specific industry experience is not a requirement.
What is important is a completed university degree and at least one year of professional experience of any kind. The programmes are aimed at both career changers and professionals from the media and creative industries.
Application & Admission
The application phase for both master's programmes usually starts in February of each year.
An early bird discount is valid until April 30th.
The regular application deadline for both programmes ends on July 31st.
Für die Masterstudiengänge gilt:
a completed academic university degree with at least 180 ECTS(e.g. Bachelor's, diploma, state examination)
at least one year of professional experience (across industries)
Additional requirements depending on the course of study:
Digital Media Law and Management (LL.M.)
Language of instruction: German
A requirement is a German level C1, provided that German is not the mother tongue.
European Film Business and Law LL.M. | MBA
Language of instruction: English
A C1 level of English is required, provided that English is not the mother tongue.
The admission or rejection notices are usually sent out from the end of August to the beginning of September.
Study format & process
Yes. Both master's programmes are designed for working professionals and can be combined with full-time or part-time employment.
Both programmes have a standard study duration of two years (4 semesters):
1st–2nd semester:
a total of 12 modules
6 core modules (mandatory for all students)
3 specialisation modules in the chosen programme (MBA or LL.M.)
1 elective module from the other programme
3rd semester:
Practical project (usually as a group project, alternatively individually)
With at least 3 years of relevant professional experience the project can be recognised.
4th semester:
Master's thesis

Digital Media Law & Management: Die Module finden überwiegend in Präsenz statt.
European Film Business & Law: Das Studium ist größtenteils online, mit zwei Präsenzphasen:
a study week in the autumn of the first semester
a study week at the end of the second semester
Qualification & academic framework
Upon successful completion, students will be awarded an academic Master’s degree:
LL.M. (Master of Laws)
MBA (Master of Business Administration)
oder – bei Absolvierung beider Masterstudiengänge – beide Abschlüsse
The degrees are joint academic qualifications awarded by the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and the University of Potsdam and comprise 120 ECTS credits.
- Studierende im LL.M.-Masterstudiengang sind an der Universität Potsdam eingeschrieben.
- Studierende im MBA-Masterstudiengang sind an der Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF.
- Bei Wahl beider Masterstudiengänge erfolgt die Einschreibung nacheinander. Bereits absolvierte Leistungen werden automatisch anerkannt; es müssen nur noch fehlende Module und die jeweilige Abschlussarbeit absolviert werden.
